Sore Thumb just won a Silver Davey Award for Website design for our work on Cassandra Fultz’s Immigration Law website, and we wanted to share some insight into what went into creating an award-winning website!
Building the site
We selected Cassandra’s website to submit because we had a lot of creative freedom with the project. She wanted to break out of the mould of what you typically see for traditional law websites. We wanted to design something eye-catching that captured her personality and was easy for both the user to navigate and for Cassandra to update with news and media links on an ongoing basis.
We chose to re-design her site on Squarespace (you can read more about the final result here) and went with bold and bright colours contrasted with a classic serif typeface to help her stand out. The site features strong Calls-to-Action throughout and clear navigation. The end result was a site that is both beautifully unqiue and user-friendly.
And then for the award…!
The Davey Awards honours small teams and indie creators bringing big ideas to life without big budgets across Websites, Design & Print, Video, Marketing and more. The Davey Awards spotlights the bold ingenuity of small shops proving their creativity has no limits.
This year, they received thousands of entries from boutique agencies, in-house creative and marketing teams, small production companies and independent creators.
Every entry in the Davey Awards is evaluated on its own merit against a standard of excellence set by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), an assembly of 1,100+ industry leaders from acclaimed brands, institutions and agencies.
When we saw the email come in, we couldn’t have been more proud of our small team for being recognized in such a big way. Though we don’t need an award to be proud of the hard work we put into every project, this shout-out feels like an extra pat on the back for our creativity and talents in web design.
